Manufacturing: a maintenance knowledge assistant for the shop floor

Manuals, service histories and the memory of senior technicians, searchable by anyone, on the floor, in plain language.

Maintenance knowledge is scattered across manuals, past work orders and experienced people. A grounded assistant helps technicians find the right procedure or the last time this fault occurred.

Design

  • Index manuals, work orders and procedures with machine, model and date metadata.
  • Answer with citations to the exact page or work order.
  • Support voice and mobile use for hands-busy settings.
  • Show safety warnings prominently and never paraphrase safety-critical steps.

Cautions

  • Link to current documents only; superseded manuals cause errors.
  • The assistant advises; the technician follows the approved procedure.
  • Capture technicians' corrections to improve the knowledge base.

Test on real fault descriptions from past work orders before putting it on the floor.
